Standing in the courtyard, you really feel the 19th-century fairy-tale vision come to life. The sheer number of tourists here proves how iconic it is, but every angle makes a stunning photo. Definitely the highlight of our Bavaria trip.

The sheer amount of history packed into one castle is impressive—Ludwig II's personal retreat really does feel like a tribute to Wagner. My only small gripe is that the interior tour felt a bit rushed, but the views from the bridge outside make up for it.

Visiting Neuschwanstein was a childhood dream, and the castle's story as a personal retreat for Ludwig II was even more fascinating than the photos. I just wish we'd known about the steep uphill walk to the entrance beforehand—it's worth it, but be prepared.
