Fokker Triplane DR.1: A journey through time to the beginnings of model making

This kit breathes history – in two respects. The Fokker DR.1 is not only probably the most famous fighter aircraft of the First World War, but this model is also a real legend from Revell. Manufactured with the original tools from 1957, it is one of the oldest aircraft models that we still own. As a strictly limited edition, this kit in the extraordinary 1:28 scale offers the rare opportunity to experience model building as it began over 65 years ago.

Why this vintage classic wins the hearts of collectors

  • Historical forms: “Tool from 1957” – hold a piece of Revell company history in your hands. The design reflects the charm of the early kit era.
  • Large scale: In 1:28 (over 26 cm wingspan), the triplane looks particularly impressive and stands out clearly from the usual 1:72 or 1:48 models.
  • Cult status: For many long-time model builders, this kit is a journey back to their own childhood. A real collector's item.
  • Challenge Level 4: As is usual with historical shapes, real craftsmanship is required when adjusting and gluing the 60 parts together.
  • Collectible: As a limited edition, availability is limited - ideal for fans who are looking for something special.

Building the Fokker DR.1 is pure nostalgia. You create the iconic triplane with its characteristic radial engine and two machine guns. The surface structures bear the hallmarks of the 1950s. The finished model is not only a replica of Manfred von Richthofen's (the "Red Baron") aircraft, but also a monument to the development of plastic model making.

Background information

The Fokker Dr.I (triplane) was the most maneuverable aircraft on the Western Front in 1917/1918 and was inextricably linked to the flying ace Manfred von Richthofen. Its three wings provided enormous lift and tight turning radii. This kit captures the myth of this aircraft, but at the same time preserves the technical state of the model building industry in 1957.

Harper A. ★★★★★

The wings and fuselage have that wonderful aged-paper look in the box art, instantly pulling you back to the dawn of aviation. Each strut fits with a satisfying precision that made me feel like I was building a piece of history, not just a model. Honestly, the whole experience felt like a time capsu

Jacob ★★★★★

The instruction sheet reads like a short history lesson, which made the build feel more meaningful than a typical kit. Fit of the fuselage halves was tight and needed barely any filler. A lovely way to spend a quiet weekend.

Daniel Y. ★★★★★

The wood grain on the decals is incredibly crisp, and the interplane struts fit snugly without needing much trimming. I’ve built a lot of WWI kits, and the level of detail in this triplane’s engine cowling really stands out.
