Background information

The three submarines included represent different types developed or operated by the Bundeswehr. These include the legendary submarine “Wilhelm Bauer”, a Type 206A and a Class 2 submarine. The models represent different eras of the Federal Navy and reflect technological advances and changing operational requirements.

The “Wilhelm Bauer”, originally built as Type XXI during the Second World War, was extensively modernized after the end of the war and later served as a testing platform. The Type 206A boats are among the most successful and longest-lasting German submarine designs, while the Class 2 boats impress with their timelessness and versatility.
