Background information

The Spanish galleon significantly shaped the golden age of seafaring in the 16th and 17th centuries. As a hybrid between a warship and a merchant ship, she revolutionized maritime trade and naval warfare. These powerful ships not only transported valuable goods between continents, but also formed the backbone of the Spanish Armada. Their sturdy construction and ability to carry both cargo and cannons made them the preferred ship type of their time.
